VENUES AND EVENTS: Providence Civic Center (capacity 16,026) is home of the American Hockey League Providence Bruins and the Providence College Friars; the second annual Gravity Games, a weeklong alternative sports competition featuring such sports as street luge, were held in July throughout the city with an average daily attendance of 39,000; the University of Rhode Island's Institute for International Sport hosts the World Scholar-Athlete Games semiannually at the University of Rhode Island, attracting 2,500 scholar athletes from 160 countries to compete in arts and athletics competitions similar to the ancient Olympiad, at URI's Meade Stadium (8,000), Keaney Gym (3,885) and other venues throughout the region; Bryant Stadium (3,000) at Bryant College hosts the New England Patriots training camp; Brown University, Brown Stadium (20,000); Schneider Arena at Providence College (3,030).
