Competitor Group Enters Triathlon Field With Purchase Of DC-Based Nation's TriathlonPublished February 20, 2012
The Competitor Group has purchased Nation’s Triathlon, one of the largest such races in the country. The purchase marks Competitor’s expansion from not just half marathons and marathons, but into triathlons. The new race will join the TriRock Triathlon Series in '13. Nation’s Triathlon, which raises money for leukemia and blood related cancers, is scheduled for Sunday, September 9 in DC. As part of the purchase, former owner Washington Sports & Event Managements will continue to assist in operating the event. The acquisition follows CGI’s recent announcement that the Austin Triathlon will join the Land Rover TriRock Triathlon Series in '12, expanding the series of entertainment themed triathlons to six markets this year.
