MAGICAL ENDEAVORS: In DC, Yuki Noguchi writes that
MAGIC JOHNSON opened his first Starbucks coffee store in the
DC area yesterday as "part of a broader commitment to Prince
George's [MD] County by the former basketball star's
business interests." Johnson and Starbucks jointly own 16
stores nationwide (WASH. POST, 3/2). Also in DC, Michael
Wilbon notes that Johnson is "now plotting a $2 billion
World Wide Web portal called urbanmagic.com. Last night,
Johnson "was to meet with AOL execs" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/2).
NAMES: The AP's Joseph White writes that Capitals Owner
and AOL Exec TED LEONSIS appeared on ESPN radio and revealed
his e-mail address, causing him to receive 1,000 emails in
11 minutes, "so many they forced a shutdown of his personal
account" (AP, 3/2)....Red Wings C SERGEI FEDOROV, on recent
reports that ANNA KOURNIKOVA, whom he reportedly once dated,
became engaged to Panthers RW PAVEL BURE: "My position has
always been, I have nothing to say about that. What's
private is private" (DETROIT NEWS, 3/2)....In Daytona Beach,
Ken Hornack notes that Magic Senior Exec VP PAT WILLIAMS
"was beaming with pride" over the accomplishment of his
daughter, KARYN. Karyn, a junior at the Univ. of FL, won a
pageant in Gainesville last weekend which automatically
qualifies her for the MISS FLORIDA contest in June, the
winner of which will represent the state as its MISS AMERICA
contestant (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 3/1).
