U.S. women's soccer team G Briana Scurry has "gone on
the defensive against a lawsuit" filed in December by her
former agent Michael Olsher (see THE DAILY, 12/22),
"alleging" Olsher's "poor representation cost her
endorsements," according to Jon Burstein of the
Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL. The suit filed by Olsher and
his agency, Olsher Soccer Int'l, claimed that Scurry
"improperly broke off" their three-year contract that was
set to expire November 2000. But Scurry's attorney Michael
Popok filed a countersuit in FL February 15 and said, "There
were a number of people with endorsement opportunities [for
Scurry] that were upset that their phone calls weren't
returned. These [companies] like her and want her, but if
they don't get her, they'll go to Brandi [Chastain] and Mia
[Hamm]." Popok claimed that Olsher "failed to deliver on a
number of potential marketing deals," including two book
deals and endorsements for athletic equipment, a hair care
product and a telecom company. Popok added that Olsher
"took no interest in" Scurry's career until her "World Cup
heroics" and that Olsher "never has met" Scurry in person.
Olsher's attorney Richard Bagdasarian "could not be reached
for comment" yesterday (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, 3/2).
