The St. Petersburg Times will "pay an undisclosed sum"
to Tampa's Ice Palace "in exchange for advertising
privileges" at the arena. St. Pete Times Marketing Dir Ed
Cassidy said that the deal "contains a clause stating that
the paper's editorial content will not be affected by the
arrangement." The pact "doesn't include sponsorship" of the
Lightning, as the team is already sponsored by the Tampa
Tribune (Lucia Moses, ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 2/28).
MLB TEAM MARKETING NOTES: The Cubs will give away a Pez
dispenser with Charlie Brown wearing a Cubs cap to the first
15,000 fans attending the June 14 game against the Mets.
Cubs VP/Marketing John McDonough: "I believe it's the first
baseball promotion with a 'Peanuts' character ever." The
team planned the promo "long before" Peanuts creator Charles
Schulz "decided to retire" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES,
3/2)....Atlanta-based Jameson Inns will sponsor the Braves
for the third consecutive year. The company will run ads
during the "Skip Caray Show" on WSB-AM, the Braves' flagship
