COYOTES, ELLMAN APPROACHING CLOSURE ON SALE, ARENA SITUATION

Published

Los Arcos developer Ellman Cos. has "drawn up a
roughly" $85M offer to buy the Coyotes and is waiting for
team Owner Richard Burke to "seal the deal," according to
sources "close to the negotiations" cited by Haussler &
McManaman of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The outlining of the
sale terms "may signal the near closure of a messy battle
over who will own" the Coyotes and whether a planned 18,000-
seat arena will be built in Scottsdale, AZ, where voters
have "twice OK'd plans for a new home" for the team. Ellman
officials "could not be reached" for comment Tuesday, and
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman "declined to say whether a
deal is imminent." Bettman: "There's a lot of discussion
going on. ... It's premature for anyone to suggest that a
deal has been concluded yet" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 3/1).
